Fabric Intervention and Dottie Angel

I am packing for my weekend workshop by Dottie Angel one of Angela Ritchie's Ace Camps. Looking at my piles I think I might need a fabric intervention, and I am certain I will be meeting 12 other women who share the same passion for textiles old and new.  I can't wait to get started.

Danielle (talented new artist friend) if you are reading this...I have been procrastinating too.  So you are not alone.

Art and Soul

I will be teaching a PMC charm bracelet in Portland at Art & Soul Retreat on 10/3.  They have a fun selection of classes...so check out there website.

 

Here is a little necklace made from some of my favorite Paris vintage finds, a few vintage beads from various locations, and new gemstones...the frayed ribbon is actually recycled silk sari ribbon.  I love the texture it adds.  

ArtFest Annex

I took a great class with Teesha Moore at the ArtFest Annex.  We created a little book of intentions...a fabulous way to spend the day.

 

 
 
 
 
Just finishing up some more detail and then I can't wait to start journaling.  Sunshine, art and the beach...I couldn't ask for a better weekend!

 

Sharing My Art

I came home from the Ignite retreat with many things swirling around in my head, but one thing that really stuck with me was a comment Elida had made about sharing your art with your family.  I usually used my studio as an escape from the day to day.  Sure I did art with the kids in the kitchen or at their art tables, but not really in my studio.  So I came home and cleared off my main table....

 
The table is never bare...do not be mislead by this clean table...the rest of the studio is a mess...I just moved stuff from this table to various locations.

 

 

So now we are all working in there on various projects...I am taking a journaling class  with Christy Tomlinson and my youngest is doing her own journal too.

 

I have been making changes in the use of my free time and trying to create as much as possible.  Made some new jewelry, making changes in my eating habits and trying to get some exercise in too.  Really focusing on what I want to do and trying  to not waste time on mindless things. 

Oh...I am also thinking about starting a "Tool Tuesday" feature on my blog...maybe a video of sorts.  Coming your way soon.

My Heart Ignited

I have just returned from a great retreat on the Oregon Coast.  Words cannot explain the experience, so will share a few shinning moments...

In love with wax...

I took a great class at ArtFest with Patricia Seggebruchthat was encaustic and plaster and I am in love...the possibilities seem endless and it is so fun.  My pieces are just a small glimpse of what we learned...and all the pieces were amazing and different. 

 

Oh...the wonderful textures you can create...

 

 

She was an awesome teacher and had it all set  up and ready for the 24 of us to get a ton done.

ArtFest for the Soul

ArtFest is magical...not just the beauty of the retreat location, but the energy that all the attendees bring.  The feeling that you are not alone or so crazy after all.  It is the one place that no one notices the paint wedged in your nails...or that perhaps your shirt is on inside out.   Teesha and Tracy Moore have been putting this retreat on for years and their dedication to this event is amazing.

I had fun working with wire sculpture, painting with wax, and painting photo copies.  I had fun hanging out with old and new friends and am so thankful I was able to spend this time just doing my art thing.   I'll share some art from the event later this week.  I hope you are able to find just such a magical distraction from your everyday life. 

 

Art & Soul Portland

Art & Soul Portland was wonderful.  It is about connection, learning and growing all rolled up into one. The scarf here is by the talented and lovely Lorrie Scott.  She is a teacher and artist that I had the pleasure of rooming with this year.  I also got to have first pick of her lovely items.  The only problem was to narrow it down to just a couple of items. I have a wonderful blue one too and I can't tell you how many people comment on this scarf. 

The image below was taken by Belinda Schneider...did't her 3D PMC house turn out cute?  I took a felting class with Belinda a few years back and it was fun to have her in my class. 

 

There was a little shopping in Portland.  I toured Portland with art friend and student Deb, and we had a great time and found some wonderful items. A visit to the Clog Shop where last year I found some great turquoise Danskos...so this year I went with these warm orange/red shoes.  Sad to say they are discontinuing this style.

Lots of vintage finds too...We wondered to a couple of stores on Mississippi Street and found Porch Light and other fun vintage shops...love this glove box.

Oh...this blue velvet album from vendor night.  Sorry the picture isn't better, but I am sure it will be in many more photos in the future.  As I was running back to my room after setting up for vendor night I saw this out of the corner of my eye and had to have it.

ArtFest

I just returned from ArtFest and had a wonderful time hanging out with some wonderful people.  So much fun and only a handful of photos. 

Here is the journal I made in Pam  Garrison's class.  She is so talented and always a fun teacher.

 

I still need to attach the rhinestone brass number to the cover, but can't decide if that will just get in the way.   Sometimes it is about function over fashion.

I'll try and post more soon, but my girls are on spring break and we actually have had sun here in Washington...so might be a few days.

The Art & Soul Retreat workshops for Portland are up.  There are many wonderful classes and I'll be teaching 2 PMC classes.  First class is a 3d PMC and the second is a PMC charm bracelete.
